I love music. Back in my post 10 Random Things About Me, I mentioned that I am a huge fan of The Beatles. Although I grew up on classical music and the music of the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, I grew to enjoy many different kinds of music over the years. The only genres of music that I don’t listen to much is country and rap, although there are a very select few songs from those genres I actually like. Of all the genres I have exposed myself to, I would have to say that I have the biggest affinity for rock. People are constantly surprised by the fact that I listen to bands like Linkin Park, Fuel, Evanescence, Van Halen, among other ‘headbanger’ music. I am, however, an enormous fan of Within Temptation. Sharon Del Adel’s vocals are absolutely stunning. Her music is like whoa. Below are six YouTube videos of some of my all time favorite songs. Some are probably pretty hardcore for most folks. Ye be warned.
6. Pearl Jam – Even Flow
One of my favorite jams from the early 90s (try 1991). I have an iPod ‘drive to work’ playlist and this is a part of it.
5. Nine Inch Nails – Hand That Feeds
Yet another kick ass industrial band from the 90s and another song that’s part of my driving music. I think this song is probably my all time favorite NIN song. Trent Reznor is just freaking amazing…and it it just me or does he strongly resemble a hotter, younger version of Severus Snape?
4. Foo Fighters – Learn To Fly
I love the Foo Fighters, but the music video for this song is just so awesomely creative. Each character that appears on the airplane in this video is portrayed by one of the band members, and the video actually has a story. On a side note, one of the cleaning guys is Jack Black before he was famous!
3. Evanescence – Call Me When You’re Sober
What can I say? I love this band. They’re pretty similar to Within Temptation, but actually both bands have their own unique sounds. I think this is probably my favorite Evanescence song, although her ballad “Good Enough” comes in a very close second.
2. Disturbed – Prayer
Headbanging alert! Hardcore but totally awesome and well worth driving/jamming to. Just remember to pay attention to the road.
1. Within Temptation – The Howling
Oh my lord. It was so hard to choose just one song by my favorite Goth rock band, but I finally settled on The Howling because it totally rocks, it tells a story, and it has to do with werewolves, which are among one my favorite fantasy creatures.
P.S. – New poems added to Original Poetry and Favorite Poetry, and Mirror, Mirror has been updated to Chapter 3.
